Officials kick off ‘Safe Kids Summer’ 2013

Valley agencies have launched “Safe Kids Summer,” an annual event intended to promote child safety at home, in public around the pool and on the Internet.

The program provides, among other things, more than two dozen free public events throughout Maricopa County, including three in the Southwest Valley.

The three offerings are:

9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Litchfield Park Recreation Center, 100 S. Litchfield Road.

5 to 7 p.m. June 13, also at the Litchfield Park Recreation Center.

Noon to 5 p.m. July 12, at the Buckeye Aquatics Center, 207 N. Ninth St., in Buckeye.

The safety program, which has reached its third year, is sponsored by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.

Assistance is offered by the Arizona Chapter of the Red Cross, the Phoenix Children’s Injury Prevention Center, the Arizona Department of Health Services and other organizations, officials said.

Our Safe Kids Summer events are a great way for parents and children to learn how to handle potentially harmful situations kids can encounter in everyday life,” Bill Montgomery, the Maricopa County attorney, said in a press release. “This year, we’ve expanded the number of venues and participating partner organizations so that we can continue to fulfill our mission of protecting and strengthening the communities we serve.”
