MHS teacher pleads guilty to child abuse

A Millennium High School teacher accused of having a relationship with his 17-year-old student pleaded guilty Nov. 13 to a lesser charge of child abuse.
English teacher Jared Blackstone, 31, was arrested May 7 and charged with one count of luring a minor for sexual exploitation, court records state.
He originally pleaded not guilty to the charges after his arrest.
The relationship came to the attention of school administrators after the teen posted about kissing a teacher on her blog, who she referred to as “J,” and Blackstone’s name was located on her class schedule, records state.
Dozens of explicit emails exchanged between Blackstone and the student detailed their relationship, records state.
Blackstone and the teen allegedly met three times off campus, the first during spring break at a coffee bar in downtown Phoenix, records state.
Another day, Blackstone allegedly passed her a note at school asking her to meet the following day. They allegedly went to his house, then ate at Taco Bell, drove around and went to a nearby park, records state.
They first allegedly kissed April 29 at the school, and then three more times on campus, records state.
The last alleged meeting was May 4 before school. The teen sent an email to Blackstone at 6:25 a.m. that said, “The door, por favor,” asking him to let her in, records state.
Blackstone’s final email to the teen was at 11 a.m. the same day, when he wrote, “Someone reported us to administration,” records state.
He was assigned to work from home after the allegations surfaced, officials said.
After his arrest, Blackstone was released on his own recognizance with electronic monitoring, records state.
His sentencing is Dec. 14.
