Kaitlin Marie Reeves named to dean’s list

Kaitlin Marie Reeves of Buckeye was named to Iowa State University’s dean’s list for the fall 2016 semester.

To be eligible for the dean’s list, a student must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

 

Melanie Van Den Heuvel makes dean’s list

Melanie Van Den Heuvel of Buckeye was named to Davenport University’s dean’s list for the fall 2016 semester.

To be eligible for the dean’s list, a student must complete a minimum of nine credit hours with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

 

Litchfield Park residents make dean’s list at Baylor University

Kristen Noelle Bolte and Veronica Michelle Garcia, both of Litchfield Park, were named to Baylor University’s dean’s list for the fall 2016 semester.

To be eligible for the dean’s list, a student must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours with a GPA of 3.7 or higher.

 

Litchfield Elementary fun run raises $31,000

More than 1,000 pupils ran in the Boosterthon Fun Run Feb. 2 at Litchfield Elementary School in Litchfield Park, raising more than $31,000 for the school and inspiring a healthy lifestyle.

The money raised will go toward needed campus updates at Litchfield Elementary.

 

Bianca Burrell graduates from Jacksonville

Bianca Burrell of Goodyear graduated in December with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Ala.

 

Tyler Boxwell graduates from Texas university

Tyler Boxwell of Litchfield Park graduated on the dean’s list in December with a bachelor’s degree in finance from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas.

To be eligible for the dean’s list, a student must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

 

Avondale student serving as college tutor

Victor Mena of Avondale is serving as a tutor for the 2016-17 school year at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa.

Tutors are selected by professors for their content knowledge and ability to assist other students with the material. They are also trained by academic support professionals. In addition to providing one-on-one services, tutors facilitate study groups and test review sessions.

Mena is a senior and an English teaching major. He offers tutoring services in writing.

He is the son of Bernice Mena of Avondale.

 

Buckeye resident named Agri-Techsan

Hannah Eichman of Buckeye has been named to the 2016-17 team of Agri-Techsans at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.

Selected each spring for the following academic year, Agri-Techsans must be nominated by either a faculty member or a current Agri-Techsan, maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and be a full-time student in Texas Tech’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.

Agri-Techsans travel to high school career days, job fairs, class presentations and club meetings throughout the region to inform prospective students about the university’s admission requirements, financial aid opportunities and what it is like to attend Texas Tech.

The selection process includes nomination and application phases followed by an appearance before a selection committee composed of the college’s faculty and staff.

Eichman is a sophomore animal science-business major. She plans to work with Farm Bureau in the area of business management, administration and advocacy work.

 

Michael Zhang named to dean’s list

Michael Zhang of Avondale was named to Wartburg College’s dean’s list for the fall 2016 semester.

To be eligible for the dean’s list, a student must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

 

W.V. students named to president’s list

Timothy Bland of Goodyear and Manny Martinez of Tolleson were named to Trine University’s president’s list for the fall 2016 semester.

To be eligible for the president’s list, a student must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours with a GPA of 3.75 or higher.

 

Applicants sought for ASU college prep program

High school students are invited to apply to Fleischer Scholars, a weeklong summer college prep program for high school juniors who will graduate in 2018. Fifty students will be given full scholarships for housing at Arizona State University, meals and materials. Sessions will be held June 12-16 and July 10-14.

Isaac Coronel named to dean’s list

Isaac Coronel of Avondale was named to Westminster College’s dean’s list for the fall 2016 semester.

To be eligible for the dean’s list, a student must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours with a GPA of 3.6 or higher.

 

Volunteers sought to host international students

Nicole Vitola makes dean’s list

Nicole Vitola of Litchfield Park was named to Simpson College’s dean’s list for the fall 2016 semester.

To be eligible for the dean’s list, a student must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours with a GPA of 3.7 or higher.

 

W.V. students named to dean’s list

Annalecia Caires of Goodyear and Jamilah Relf of Litchfield Park were named to Azusa Pacific University’s dean’s list for the fall 2016 semester.

To be eligible for the president’s list, a student must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

 

Desert Edge student earns scholarship

Desert Edge High School senior Valerie Figueroa has been named as one of the recipients of the Arizona Athletic Trainer’s Association Lenny Williams Scholarship for $500.

She was presented the award at the AzATA Winter Symposium on Jan. 29 and plans to attend Grand Canyon University to become a family physician.

 

Kyle Webber makes dean’s list

Kyle Webber of Goodyear was named to Bethel University’s dean’s list for the fall 2016 semester.

To be eligible for the dean’s list, a student must have a GPA of 3.6 or higher.

 

Scholarships available for students pursing healthcare career

Partners for Health, a nonprofit group working with Abrazo West Campus, is offering scholarships for post-secondary students interested in pursuing healthcare careers.

Five $1,000 scholarships will be awarded. Students who demonstrate financial need will be given preference.

Applicants must be currently enrolled as full-time students in credit-awarding colleges or universities and working toward careers in health-related professions.

Saddle Mountain named
‘Champions of Breakfast’

The Saddle Mountain Unified School District is the recipient of a 2017 Champions of Breakfast Award for the Western Region from the USDA’s special nutrition programs.

The award in the category for implementation of an innovative school breakfast model is for a program at Tartesso Elementary School in Buckeye that nearly doubled school breakfast participation.
