Donations needed for backpack drive

Redemption Christian Church in Avondale is hosting a backpack drive called “Fresh Start.”  The goal is to collect 50 or more backpacks filled with school supplies to donate to children in need.

Irene Aguirre receives posthumous award

The Southwest Community Network posthumously honored Irene Aguirre, an Arizona native and Southwest Valley resident, with its Humanitarian Award on June 21.

Aguirre’s family accepted the award in her honor at a community picnic at Parque de Paz in Goodyear.
