Time to raise fuel tax

Editor:

If there is ever a time to raise the fuel tax, it is now, while fuel prices are low. Kicking THIS can down the road may not be the best move for a variety of reasons.

Opposing cultures

Editor:
America is a culturally divided nation; and as such will not remain a strong nation much longer.  President Lincoln  observed that a house divided against itself cannot long stand. His comments were about a cultural divide of slavery or no slavery. Today’s cultural divide is not a single issue matter.

For most of our history, our  culture was  influenced by Christian principals. People knew right from wrong, and worshipping the Almighty and living a corresponding life were the norm. Over the last half century or so America has become a more secular society influenced by Progressive principals. These secular  Progressive principals are diametrically opposed to God’s values. Secular humanism  sees  man not God, as the dominant force in the universe. Thus the problem, which is  tearing America apart .

No Goodyear cost reductions

Editor:
Last year Congress announced their cost of operation was reduced over the prior year. That wont happen in Goodyear where Mayor Lord announced a 14% increase in residential tax bills,8% increase in the budget and 16 new positions. Why wont it happen? Read their “goals and objectives” (GO’s) as I have over the past several years and you’ll see no evidence or commitment to a concerted, measureable effort. Essentially these GO’s are nothing more than broad job description statements that commit to nothing specific or measureable relating to cost reductions,

Editor:

When I read the letter headlined “Happy New Year” Jan 6, 2015, my first thought was another example of Creative Radical Artful Propaganda, or CRAP.

Mr. Garcia has been in law enforcement for many years and certainly knew that when he held that press conference that he would be fired for insubordination and I ask why?

An old family Christmas story

Editor:

I was born during WW11. My dad came from Louisiana to join the CC Camps from the deep South.  Somehow he got through it even though he was born with a hole in his heart.

He married my mother and the three of us lived in what they always called a Gypsy Traitor.

My mother became Rosie The Riveter and dad worked in the same air craft plant.

When the Company gave dad a physical his heart condition was discovered and they had to let him go. He was devastated.

They offered him retaining, and ask what he was good at.

He said watch repairing, that as a kid he had fixed all the  pocket watches in town, much to the aggravation of the local jeweler.

He was sent to work for two Jewish brothers who owned a Jewelry Store on Western.
