Virginia L. Hunter

Virginia L. Hunter, 86, of Buckeye died Jan. 13, 2015.

Mrs. Hunter was born in May 1928.

She moved to Buckeye in the 1930s, then spent her early teens in California before returning to Buckeye to marry Lee Hunter Jr. in February 1946.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Kay Blanton; her husband, Lee; and one grandchild.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen King and Dixie Saunders; and one grandchild.

A celebration of life potluck lunch will be at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 26 in the fellowship hall at the Community Church of Buckeye, 810 E. Eason Ave. in Buckeye.

James ‘Mel’ Barron

James “Mel” Barron, 72, of Buckeye died Jan. 14, 2015, in Avondale.

Mr. Barron was born March 21, 1942, in Buckeye to Edward Barron and Grace Price.

He graduated from Hobart Welding School and taught welding at Metro State College in Colorado and the University of Alaska in Ketchikan, Alaska. He was a certified welding inspector and member of the American Welding Society. He worked on numerous projects, including the University of Phoenix Stadium.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Barron; three daughters, Deborah Lester, Barbara Barron and Mariann Sandoval; two sons, Thomas Darrow and Melvin Barron; one sister, Lucille Baker; three brothers, Bob Barron, John Barron and Tom Barron; and five grandchildren.

Richard Archibald Froncek

Richard Archibald Froncek, 87, of Goodyear died Jan. 11, 2015, at his home.

Mr. Froncek was born Jan. 13, 1927, in Milwaukee.

He joined the Marine Corps Feb. 13, 1943, at age 16. He was trained as an airborne radio and radar specialist during the World War II Pacific Campaign. He was station in Palau and throughout the Gilbert and Marshall Islands with the “Devil Dogs.”

After the war, he married Carol Leverenz, began a family and completed his education at Marquette University.

He returned to the Marine Corps as an officer, and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. He was commissioned in 1952 as an infantry platoon leader in the demilitarized zone in Korea.

Mrs. Bailey was born Sept. 8, 1944, in Houston to Fanny Lee and Cecil Coburn.

She moved to Arizona in 2003.

Beatriz Bolanos
Beatriz Bolanos, 85, of Goodyear died Dec. 23, 2014.
Mrs. Bolanos was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
She was a concert pianist, composer and teacher, and also studied classical piano with the masters in Paris.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony Bolanos.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter’s Episcopal
Church, 400 S. Old Litchfield Road in Litchfield Park.
Funeral arrangements were made by Thompson Funeral Chapel in Goodyear.

Mary ‘Annie’ Lee Andrade
Mary “Annie” Lee Andrade, 71, of Tolleson died Dec. 9, 2014.

Ms. Andrade was born Jan. 1, 1943, in Salinas, Calif.

She is survived by one daughter, Tara Downs; and two grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Treasure Island, Calif.

Ray Bobo
Ray Bobo, 91, of Avondale died Dec. 20, 2014, in Peoria. 

Mr. Bobo was born Dec. 10, 1923, in Commerce, Okla,. to W.P. and Mary Bobo. 

He served in the Army from 1943 to 1945. 

He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Bobo; one stepdaughter, Barbara J. Mays; and two stepsons, Walter H. and William H. Mays.

Roger C. Broderick

Roger C. Broderick, 65, of Tonopah died Dec. 20, 2014, in Tonopah from melanoma cancer of the liver.

Mr. Broderick was born July 5, 1949, in Hurricane, Utah.

He moved to Arizona in 1982.

He worked as a heating, ventilating and air conditioning technician at Arizona Public Service Co. for 32 years, and was also a carpenter and auto mechanic.

He served in the Air Force for two years.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served a mission in 1968 in California. He was also a member of the Boy Scouts of America.

He married Linda Mae Hardee Broderick in 1971 at the Latter-Day Saints Salt Lake Temple. He and his family moved to Tonopah in 1982.
