Goodyear police are investigating what happened to a 21-month-old toddler found not breathing this afternoon at an apartment near Indian School Road and Pebble Creek Parkway, officials said.

The child had supposedly been submerged under water inside the apartment before someone called 911 and first responders arrived, police said.

The toddler was taken to a nearby hospital, officials said.

“When we got here, the fire department was doing first aid on the child,” said Lt. Scott Benson, a spokesman for the department. “[The latest is that] the child is alive.”

Detectives are currently investigating what happened inside the apartment.
