Old Town Avondale will offer nostalgic fun, food, music and rides during Billy Moore Days, a four-day event named after Avondale’s founder. 

Businesses and local organizations are invited to be part of the tradition. This street-style celebration is Thursday, Oct. 13, to Sunday, Oct. 16, on Western Avondale in Old Town Avondale. It also features friendly competitions, games, contests and stage acts.

Carnival (Thursday, Oct. 13, to Sunday, Oct. 16): DeConcini Park lights up with fun and excitement during all hour days of the carnival. A large variety of rides and games include favorites such as magic maze, freak out and giant slide. Carnival times are 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday, 6 to 11 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, and 3 to 10 p.m. Sunday. Pricing for wristbands is $17 in advance at and $20 day of, cash only (an ATM will be available). Carnival concessions food will be available.

Parade (9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15): Floats, horses, bands and entertainers are ready to march down Western Avenue for the Billy Moore Days Parade. The parade will feature dozens of colorful entries, decorated floats, horse-drawn wagons, dance groups, local celebrities, community organizations, antique cars, school clubs, scouts and more. Prizes will be awarded for the entry best overall appearance (first through third place). Entries can register online at

Fire Hose Frenzy (12:30 p.m. Saturday Oct. 15): Watch as Avondale firefighters conduct this battle with fire hoses as they push a barrel back and forth along a cable. Cheer and cool off as water flies. This event benefits the Southwest Lending Closet.

Western Shows & Contests (noon to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15): Take a trip back in time with Comedy Stunt Shows, horsemanship demonstrations and magic. Dr. Buck’s Wild West Show encourages friendly competitions, including the Wild West Hoopin’ contest, the Yee-Haw Hollering contest, and even a mustache and beard contest. Activities will take place at Sernas Plaza. Sign up on location at Dr. Buck’s informational booth at no cost. Warning: The sound of simulated gunfire will be in the area at 1:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Live entertainment, food trucks and saloon sponsored by Desert Diamond Casino West Valley (6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, and 1:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15): The lineup of entertainment and complete stage schedule is listed online, but enjoy various musical acts from county to Latin flare and enjoy dances from Ballet Folklorico Esperanza. Various food trucks will sell food.

A few road closures in Old Town Avondale will accommodate the festivities. Western Avenue will be closed from South Third Street to Dysart Road beginning 7 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15, and closed from Central Road to Dysart beginning at 6 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15. In addition, North Sixth Street from Western Avenue to Agua Fria High School will be closed from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, for the parade.

Admission and parking are free; costs associated with food vendors, merchandise, saloon and carnival rides.
