The COVID-19 Delta variant is highly transmissible, and Arizona has more than 1 million coronavirus cases since the pandemic began. Unvaccinated people are much more likely to be sicker longer, be hospitalized with COVID-19 and have a higher mortality.

More than 95% of patients hospitalized for COVID-19 in the United States are unvaccinated, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC recommends that pregnant women, and those planning pregnancy, get vaccinated against COVID-19.

Vaccinated individuals are eight times less likely to be infected with COVID-19 and experience symptoms and 25 times less likely to be hospitalized with serious symptoms, said Abrazo Health Pharmacy Director Aimée Posivak, PharmD, MBA.
