A pair of brothers has been arrested after a string of thefts from several Buckeye retail stores. Buckeye police said the brothers admitted to the crimes as a way to fund their drug habits.
Bryan Velazquez, 24, and Michael Velazquez, 18, were charged with five and three counts of organized retail theft, respectively.
Officers were called on July 14 to the Beall’s Outlet on Watson Road, just south of I-10, regarding a shoplifting. The officers were given a description of two suspects, both of whom were located at a nearby convenience store with some of the stolen items.
With the help of employees and security personnel from both Beall’s and Walmart, officers were able to piece together that the brothers were tied to a total of five recent retail thefts from several stores in the area, police said.
Witnesses and surveillance video confirmed the involvement of the suspects, police said.
They were booked into the Maricopa County Fourth Avenue Jail.
“These kinds of arrests show the cooperation between Buckeye police officers and our partners at our local retail stores,” the department said in a statement.
