The city of Avondale

The city of Avondale, named as one of America’s top digital cities, recently launched AviWise, where residents can make service requests.

The Center for Digital Government ranked Avondale as one of the top cities in the country in its 2020 Digital Cities Survey. The award recognizes cities for their commitment to and innovations in digital government.

Avondale, which has consistently been ranked as among the top Digital Cities for the past several years, moved up to sixth place in the 75,000 to 124,999 population category.  Winners were honored at a special awards virtual ceremony held Nov. 10.

“Avondale is continuously striving to enhance our technology to provide innovative and reliable services for our residents,” said Avondale Chief Information Officer Jeff Scheetz.

“For instance, the city responded quickly during the pandemic to enable and provide services to the community, including installing outdoor Wi-Fi access around City Hall, Friendship Park, Festival Fields and both libraries to provide connectivity for the community and students.”

Scheetz added that his GIS team also implemented a mobile workforce solution for Avondale’s first responders to use during high-profile events, such as the races at Phoenix Raceway, including the 2020 NASCAR Championship Weekend that recently took place. “This solution was designed to streamline processes and provide real-time awareness of field crew locations to enhance response times,” he stated.

“Innovative cities are utilizing technology and analyzing data to better serve their citizens, respond quickly to citizen needs around COVID-19, and support digital experience initiatives,” said Phil Bertolini, co-director, CDG. “The Center for Digital Government congratulates this year’s winners for their hard work and efforts to use technology to enhance citizen interactions with government.”

Avondale also launched a new Citizen Response Management platform this year. Launched last month, AviWise replaces an older platform, and is designed to improve customer service and response times to citizen questions or concerns.

“AviWise allows residents to submit service requests and access information about city services 24/7,” the website notes. “Using AviWise provides us with the opportunity to deliver quality service to you in a timely and effective manner while also keeping you informed on the status of your request.”
