The city of Avondale has promoted Cheryl Covert to assistant economic development director.
Covert has more than 12 years of municipal development experience. She became Avondale’s employment, business and development specialist in 2012, after having served with the city of Buckeye. Her primary focus is leading the business attraction and marketing efforts across industry sectors, and she is responsible for locating projects which provide new capital investment and high-quality jobs for residents.
Covert was the recipient of the 2018 WESTMARC President’s Choice Award and the 2017 WESTMARC Economic Development Chairman’s Recognition Award.
She earned her bachelor’s degree from California State University, Sacramento and her Master’s in Business Administration from Grand Canyon University.
She and her husband reside in the West Valley, and have three young children.
