Construction on the Van Buren multi-use path project was scheduled to begin this week in Avondale.

This partially federally funded project has a total construction cost of $4.2 million, with the federal government paying $2.6 million and Avondale contributing $1.6 million.

Managed by the Arizona Department of Transportation, it has an estimated completion of December.

The 1.5-mile path will be between 113th Avenue and 127th Avenue on the north side of Van Buren Street. The proposed work consists of a concrete multi-use path, sidewalks and sidewalk ramps, pedestrian lighting, an irrigations system, landscaping, signing, striping and other related work.

Access to businesses and homes will be maintained throughout construction.
