Alice Mae “Penny“ Etchart

“Penny”, 86 of Litchfield Park, Az, passed away on October 24, 2017. She was born August 24, 1931 in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania to William and Alice Cur- rie. As a child, Penny (nicknamed for her bright red hair), moved with her fam- ily to Ontario California. It was there that she met her future husband, Ferdinand. In 1960, the couple moved their growing family to Arizona and settled in Litchfield Park. With the support of his wife, Ferdinand established Everkrisp Vegetables (located in Tolleson). Today the company is run by their sons, daughter, grandsons, and granddaughter. Penny was a talented painter of florals and desert landscapes. She showcased her artwork in the ’70’s and 80’s on the walls of the historic Wigwam hotel and sold paintings to guests from around the world. An avid traveler of the world, Penny’s destinations included China and Peru. But her favorite place to visit was London, Eng- land and the surrounding countryside. Penny loved to sing and for years performed as a soloist at her church as well as singing with the west-side chorale group, the CAS-Illons. A naturally happy person, at home Penny was always humming or singing a tune. She loved people and pos- sessed the “gift” of gab. But above everything else, Penny prized family and throughout her life continued to hold dinners in her home to bring together her boisterous clan in joyful gatherings. Penny was preceded in death by her husband, Ferdin- and Jean Etchart. She is survived by daughter Alicia (Sammy) Patterson; sons, Mathieu (Nancy), Martin, Mi- chael (Sue), and Miles (Betsy); grandchildren, Abigail (Andrew) Fraser, Andrew (Sophie) Etchart, Michael Etchart, Samantha Etchart, Katie Etchart, Maggie Etchart, Emilie Etchart, Ginger Patterson, Caleb Patter- son, Malcolm Etchart, and Griffin Etchart; great grand- children Frances Fraser, Theodore Fraser, and Cody Etchart. A funeral Mass will be celebrated November 10, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church 13720 W. Thomas Rd, Avondale, Az 86392. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. Dolores (Dee) Diane Murray

Dolores (Dee) Diane Murray, age 75 of Goodyear died October 20, 2017. She was born August 26, 1942 in Chicago, IL to George Duhr and Louise Girard. Dee is survived by her husband, James (Jim) Murray; daughter, Barb (Brian) Spitzock; sons, Michael Murray and Patrick (Kim) Murray; brothers, Tom, Richie, and Harry Duhr; and two grandchildren, Lucas Spitzock and Jaquelyn Marie. She was preceded in death by her brother Matt Benson. A visitation was held October 26, 2017 and a funeral service on October 27, 2017 at Thompson Funeral Chapel. Juanita Christine Bierman

Juanita Christine Bierman, 92 years old passed away at her home in Buckeye Arizona on October 22, 2017. She was born May 13, 1925 in Asbury Missouri. Her parents Roscoe Raymond Smith and Lutie Blanche McAlister preceded her in death along with her hus- band George Brewer Bierman. She is survived by her four children Ronald Bierman, Roxana Wyrick, Carolyn Reiswig, and Scott Bierman, along with 12 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Ruth Tatum, Phillis Wolfe, Donna Decker, Hope McAllister, her brothers Bill Smith, and Daryl Lancaster. A memorial service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints on December 9, 2017 after which she will be buried by her husband at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona.

Margaret Arlene Evans

Margaret Arlene Evans, born March 28, 1934, went to the Lord on October 24, 2017. Laid to rest November 1, 2017. Ar- lene spent most of her life in Avondale, Goodyear and the Buckeye area prior to retiring to Peeples & Chino Valley. Her last few years were spent back here in the Valley. Arlene and her husband Emory were the founders and own- ers of the Original Cowpuncher Steakhouse, Buckeye before selling in 1976. They also built and owned through her life The Estrella Rendezvous Steakhouse in the Estrella Mountains, the Owls Nest in Avondale and the Drifter Steakhouse in Peeples Valley and worked several years as Hostess for the Red Lob- ster in Prescott. She was full of life, loved her family and wanted to take care of everyone. Her passion was cooking and baking. She loved to entertain and enjoyed family gatherings and being around people. Arlene loved the outdoors, camping, hunting and especially Jeep rides. She was a member of the Eastern Stars, ladies Shriner auxiliary and the West Valley Soroptimist Women’s organization. Preceded in death by her husband Emory R. Evans, Son Rod- ney Guy Evans, and grandson Joshua Shane Evans. She is survived by her daughters Brenda Byassee (Joe) and Roxanne Shamblin (Bob); 5 Grandchildren; 11 Great Grandchil- dren and 4 Great-Great grandchildren; Sisters, Nellie Yvonne “Bonnie” Madden and Beverly Stamper Brother Leland Doyle Shunk; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Katherine Conde Villa

Katherine Conde Villa went to be with the lord on October 27 2017. Surrounded by her children and hus- band of 63 years Richard C Villa Kay was 82 years old and the daughter of Guillermo and Conception Conde of Aqua Caliente. Kay was preceded in death by sons Jackie Ray (Pino) and Richard Villa. Kay is survived by son Roger Villa; daughters Roseanne Martin, Rachael Mend- oza, Vangie Villa, and Laurie Ball, & sisters Jeanie Rodriquez, and Molly Salazar. She is also survived by 18 Grand Kids 31 Great Grandkids, and 10 Great Great Grandkids. Kay loved cooking for and spending time with her family as well as gardening. Services were held November 2, 2017.

Benjamin Franklin Carson

Benjamin Franklin Carson, age 74 died October 9, 2017 in Avondale, AZ. He was born December 6, 1942 in Or- angeburg, SC to Julius Carson and Eth- el Williams Carson. He served twenty years from July 16, 1970-July 31, 1990 in the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant/Machinist. His commendations are as follows: Air Force Com- mendation Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon, Air Force Over- seas Long Tour Ribbon with One Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, and NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon. Benjamin is survived by his daughter, Summer Carson and granddaughter, Sumaya. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Carson. Interment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85024. Gerald Leroy Philips

Gerald Leroy Philips, age 78 of Litchfield Park, AZ passed away October 21, 2017. He was born June 8, 1939 in Au- rora, Illinois. Jerry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ann Marie Philips; two daughters, Dawn Bogart and Karen Washing- ton and one son, Rick Philips. Jerry was blessed with six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held October 27, 2017 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Goodyear, AZ.

Raymundo "Ray" Rodriguez Jr.

Raymundo "Ray" Rodriguez Jr., 26, of Avondale died October 9, 2017. Ray was born in Phoenix on December 31, 1990. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Ray is survived by his daughter, Anay- ee; sons, Lil Ray, Juanito; parents Michelle Tequida and Raymundo Rodriguez; sisters Nicole and Alexandra; grandparents, Susan Tequida "Nana" his other mom and Jesus Tequida, Antonio Romero, Henry Rodriguez and Rosa Sota. Ray was a very talented athlete, obtained his GED and recently enrolled in college to begin the pursuit of a ca- reer as a firefighter.
