As we welcome a new year, some of the challenges of 2020 will undoubtedly carry into 2021. I am confident that we can overcome these obstacles together. As you may have heard, Goodyear is thriving even in these uncertain times.
We are thrilled to continue to attract new businesses and residents to our beautiful city, including new restaurants and retail options we know you want in our community. We are also excited that our new Goodyear Recreation Campus will open in the summer for our residents to enjoy. Our budget is strong and healthy, due in large part to the conservative fiscal policies of council and the continued growth in our community.
I am writing today to share important information about the Goodyear budget and how we are ready and able to assist our residents and small businesses in need during these challenging times.
DID YOU KNOW? Goodyear received nearly $10 million in CARES funding from Gov. Doug Ducey earmarked in his executive order specifically to offset public safety expenses and we gratefully used those dollars to cover police and fire expenses for the months of May, June and some of July.
DID YOU KNOW? Goodyear has federal funding available to assist residents who are struggling with utility and rent payments. Learn more about this program and others at goodyearaz.gov/help. The city is also offering relaxed utility payment plans for those who do not qualify for the full federal assistance but who still need help. Call 623-882-7887 and speak to a customer service representative to review your options.
DID YOU KNOW? Goodyear has established a centralized resource for residents seeking assistance. Residents in need are encouraged to email us at email@example.com or call 623-882-7801 to speak to a staff member.
DID YOU KNOW? The city of Goodyear has been supporting your small-business neighbors by providing advocacy and support to help them navigate the pandemic relief programs at the federal, state and county level. Financial assistance is still available to assist with rent, payroll and other expenses. If you are a small business in need, please reach out to our Economic Development team at 623-932-3025, email
DID YOU KNOW? Goodyear employees are the key to providing our community with the valuable services that make Goodyear a great place to live, and when our budget allowed, I proudly supported a 2.5% pay raise in support of these public servants who have been working so diligently during the pandemic.
DID YOU KNOW? A five-year rate study on our water, wastewater and stormwater fees is under consideration. These are “enterprise” funds, meaning they run like a business, with fees collected supporting the system without the use of taxes. This is one of the many conservative fiscal policies adopted by council that have led to our financial stability. Like all businesses, costs increase with inflation, and as a business, this means the fees must increase over time as well. The rate study, adopted in partnership with specialty consultants and a residents’ committee, ensures the business model is sustainable and provides the best value for our residents. Learn more at goodyearaz.gov/utilityratestudy.
It’s an honor to be the mayor of a city so deeply committed to supporting each other. We are in this together, and together, we are resilient. #GoodyearCares.
